Open Letter では、2月24日より森岡孝充による個展《ONSET》を開催します。本展は、シルクスクリーンスタジオ PAJA STUDIO を主宰しながら近年はペインターとして活動している森岡さんにとって初の本格的な個展となります。

一見その参照元として Op Art を想起させる森岡さんの作品は、自身で「抽象化された心象風景のようなもの」と表するように、純粋な視覚実験というよりも、彼が日常で目にする風景や、ふと感じる違和感がベースになっています。それは、「決められた線と決められていない線を描く。」というステートメントの一文が象徴するように、繰り返される日常や自身が生きている環境を受け入れつつも（またはそこから逸脱することなく）、ポジティブであり続けるための実践そのものであり、絵を描くという行為への森岡さんの信頼であるように思えます。

本展では「グリッド シリーズ」を軸にした新作ペインティングと、森岡さんの制作態度やアイデアが詰まったZineを発表します。ぜひご覧にいらしてください。

決められた線と決められていない線を描く。

形式があれば自由があり、
自由があれば形式がある。

日々と日々の中にある自由を楽しみたい。

形式と自由の調和をテーマに、
形式に抗う行為自体が創造的な自由を探求するプロセスであると考え制作をしています。

Takashi Morioka | ONSET

Open Letter is pleased to present “ONSET,” a solo exhibition by Takashi Morioka starting February 24. This is the first solo exhibition for Morioka, who has been active as a painter in recent years while running the silkscreen studio PAJA STUDIO.

His works, which at first glance remind us of Op Art as a reference source, are based on scenes he sees in his daily life and the discomfort he suddenly feels, rather than pure visual experiments, as he describes them as “a kind of abstracted mental landscape. As symbolized by his statement, “I draw the lines that have been decided and the lines that have not been decided,” this is a practice of remaining positive while accepting (or not deviating from) the repetitive routine and environment in which he lives, and seems to be Morioka’s trust in the act of painting.

In this exhibition, we will present new paintings centered on the “Grid Series” and a zine filled with Mr. Morioka’s attitude and ideas. Please come and see them.

Artist Statement

I draw both defined and undetermined lines.
Where there is form, there is freedom, where there is freedom, there is form.
I want to enjoy the freedom that exists in each and every day.
With theme of the harmony of form and freedom,
I create my works with the idea that the act of defying formality is itself a process of exploring creative freedom.

Artist Profile

Born in Hiroshima in 1996, currently based in Tokyo.
Member of the print studio PAJA STUDIO.
He enjoys the sense of discomfort hidden in everyday life while creating his works.
